Eve Turek’s photograph Meditation was chosen by the Professional Photographers of America as one of only three images to represent the United States in the Landscape Category in the first World Photographic Cup. An international panel of 15 judges chose Meditation as the Gold Medal winner. Eve’s photograph was the United States’ only gold medal, and helped the US secure the overall World Photographic Cup.

The WPC is a joint effort between the Professional Photographers of America and the Federation of European Photographers. 22 nations competed in the inaugural WPC with images in six categories. Neither the photographers’ names, nor their country of origin, was revealed during the judging process.

“I am very grateful to have been chosen to represent the United States alongside some of the very best photographic talent working in the world today. To have the further honor of having my image chosen as the Gold Medal winner is overwhelming,” Eve said. “I just go back to what I say every time I step outside: please, and thank you.”

Eve Turek is the owner of the Seadragon and Yellowhouse Galleries. She has lived on the Outer Banks since 1976. She finds her greatest joy in encounters in the wild, which provide her with stories that photography allows her to share. Awards for her work include the 2014 World Photographic Cup Gold Medal, 2017 PPA Showcase Award, 2016 Epson Silver and 2017 & 2016 Bronze International Pano Awards, International Birds as Art finalist, and various state and regional honors.
